The New York Times reported that Army Sgt. 1st Class David Stockton was among the wounded during a three day deployment to Afghanistan last month.

The paper reported that Stockton's leg was amputated in a carjacking on a rural highway in northwestern India. He was rushed to Mount Pleasant Regional Medical Center where he continued to suffer from multiple broken bones and internal injuries from his struggle.

An Army spokesperson said Stockton "was not a flight risk" and did not want to comment on the allegations. The soldier's family confirmed that his family was not present when the alleged incident happened.

The Times reported that the U.S. Army was investigating whether the soldier suffered a fractured femur during the incident.
