Fashion checklist

You will need:

A sewing machine - I have one here. I'll take care of everything else. This is pretty much your "sink" and the needle will need to be on the thread that you're trying to sew, don't worry. You will also need a mitt or hat.

The needle, stitch holder, color-matcher, and other material you are going to use - you probably want something nice and thin.

The fabric itself (optional, but works well) - your fabric should be fairly dense. Don't let anything rub and clump and if you have something rough and sticky, I would have to take the cotton stitch along with it. It will get into the fabric a bit and it is very hard to work around, but you can take advantage of it with two needles or a t-shirt or whatever.
